A haven for localvores (people who love local food) , vegetarians and those wanting a cheap cup of tea( still only 60p ). Pretty herb garden, toys and menu for the kids. Eclectic art exhibitions throughout the year. Home base of Henry’s Beard the famous destination festival café.
Now open Sundays for a fantastic breakfast - Full English, Sunday Papers, Croissants, The Finest Local and Organic Food and Lashings of Soothing Tea. Reservations taken on 07968 968295.
Free bucks fizz, quiz , free raffle and live music!
This quirky café with its mish mash of tables and chairs, eclectic art exhibitions and ethical purchasing is set at the back of the Bridport Arts Centre in the middle of the town. It offers an array of local foods including home-made pickles, soups and home grown salads and a good choice for all vegetarians and healthy eaters.
No chips or even cappuccinos here, but a lovely cup of fair-trade tea with organic milk from a real milk bottle for 60p with a toasted 'Leakers' tea cake is a definite treat for elevenses. The tea has stayed the same price since the Henry’s Beard team (of festival circuit fame) took over the café in 2002.
With an all welcome philosophy don’t be surprised to see dogs under the table in the pretty walled garden and children playing with the large basket of toys supplied. Kids also get their own menu including pixie sandwiches and bunnikin snacks (all at around £1 - £1.50).
No table service but friendly staff with an artistic bent. On a packed Saturday don’t be surprised to share a table with someone new or have to clear the table yourself ! Lunch is cooked by great chefs including lovingly made chorizo and chickpea stew and local goats cheese crositini toasted with honey and garden grown thyme.
As home-base for the Henry’s Beard Festival Café crew you might spot a muddy wellie or hippy or two. This is where Henry’s Beard began (to raise money for the Arts Centre Roof) and yes… they do really have his beard.
