A pirates graveyard and a beautiful private cove to discover in this hidden part of Portland.
Church Ope Cove on Portland, is a sheltered beach on an otherwise open landscape which has long been a favourite for swimming and launching boats.
Up in the hills above the cove and through a wooded area lies the ruined church of St Andrews. Once the main place of worship for Portlanders and built in the 13th century, it has been destroyed by landslips and invasions of French pirates.
There are many unusual grave stones to be found in the graveyard not least among them is the one with the skull and cross bones - see if you can find it.
