Functional pottery, mostly wheel-thrown with an emphasis on decoration. Small showroom over the workshop. Opposite the steam railway station within view of the castle.
Visitors to Corfe Castle Pottery will be rewarded for the steep climb up the stairs with an array of pots all made downstairs. Below there are pots at all stages, wet clay just off the wheel or newly decorated waiting to be fired in the kiln. Upstairs, the potter Frances Pollard’s love of colour and pattern is in evidence in the rows of pots on the shelves. Influences from the coastal environment, textiles and architecture contribute to the decoration. There are affordable pots for every occasion, and Frances is happy to discuss individual commissions.
Visitors often combine a visit to the pottery with a trip on the steam train which stops outside the door. A visit to the Pottery can also easily be combined with a walk up the hill behind which has stunning views in all directions. The Boilerhouse Gallery next-door with a diverse range of work on display has much to offer the visitor interested in art and craft.
The ruin of Corfe Castle itself is a major attraction for all the family. There is also much to see and do in the village itself, a model village, a traditional village bakery, several pubs and tea-rooms.
