Hidden Dorset > Discover > Natural Environment > Wildlife > Bracketts Coppice - Dorset Wildlife Trust Reserve
A Dorset Wildlife Trust reserve that comprises quiet and hidden ancient woodland, sloping down to a small fast flowing stream; north of Corscombe,
The reserve (38 ha) is home to typical woodland bird species and the stream provides sightings of grey wagtails and kingfishers. The wood pasture is grazed and the hay-meadows are cut annually, creating fields of wildflowers with butterflies. Flowers include early purple orchids and wood anemones, sanicle and dog violets, with betony, fleabane and devil’s-bit scabious in the grassland. Butterflies include silver-washed & marsh fritillaries. There is an abundance of fungi in autumn.
Best times to visit are in spring for the flowers and birds and in summer for the butterflies.
