Lorton Meadows and Wildlife Centre - Dorset Wildlife Trust Reserve
Dorset Wildlife Trust
DT3 5QH
Tel: 01305 264620
This Dorset Wildlife Trust reserve is an area of unimproved grassland on the edge of Weymouth; the Centre is used mainly for education projects.
On the edge of the urban sprawl of Weymouth the grassland of the meadows attracts a wide variety of butterfly species, including marbled white, common & holly blues and small & large skippers. Barn owls and Cettiās warblers are among the residents bird species; the proximity of the RSPB reserves at Lodmoor and Radipole may account for the variety of migrant birds seen, particularly the warblers.
The best times to visit are spring and summer.

Directions
Take the A 354 Dorchester to Weymouth road; travelling south turn left at Lorton Lane, just past the Littlemoor Road traffic lights. Continue to the end of the lane.
(O.S. reference: SY 674 827).
Additional Information
There is parking at the Centre, which has information displays, a small shop and toilet; there are disabled facilities. There is a picnic area and a network of paths across the reserve.
