Brimstone Press Ltd., based in Shaftesbury, offers advice and membership to authors attracted by the idea of co-operative self-publishing.
Brimstone Press was established in 2006 as a means to enable authors to get their books into the marketplace. It is becoming more and more difficult for unknown authors to be taken on by agents or mainstream publishers. This doesn't mean that their books are no good, it's just an indication of the vast number of people who write books.
So, as a more positive alternative to sending material off to agents and publishers and waiting for the rejection slips to arrive, authors can join Brimstone Press Ltd. The current membership fee is £150 ( this goes up if more than one book is to be published ) for which authors receive:
- use of the Brimstone Press name
- an ISBN number
- their own author's page
- their own book page, and ther opportunity to
include excerpts from their books
- advice on typesetting and printing
- registration with Nielsen's
Bookdata, and hence with Amazon.
The advent of digital printing means that authors can get small numbers of their books printed, hence limiting their outlay. Authors bear thier own costs of production, and take all the revenue from selling their books (except for a small deduction for on-line ordering).
The full range of Brimstone Press titles can be viewed on their website, where there is an on-line ordering facility.
