Turnbulls is a wonderfull delicatessen & cafe in the old town of Shaftesbury, specialising in home made local foods and cheeses.
Turnbulls was opened in 2003 when Charlie Turnbull gave up his life of accountancy and took up a life of cheese.
Our delicatessen is now firmly established in this scenic hill-top Saxon town of Shaftesbury, the home of Gold Hill.
We provide home made and local food both at our restaurant and across the counter, with tastings every day for you to try our specialities. We have sixty or so different cheeses, including local favourites like Montgomery’s, Dorset Blue Vinney, Winn Green and Woolsery, as well as European classics. Our Gorgonzola is the best in England.
Our café has 40 covers with daily changing specials, soups, tarts and salads to compliment our set menu. Our signature dishes are our Lazy Susans, wooden boards covered with meats, cheeses, fish and anti-pasti served with award winning bread and relishes.
We bake our own cakes, brownies and scones, and are well known for our coffees, cappuccinos and lattes. In particular our Hot Chocolate Specials, with cream, marshmallows and malteasers, make the children very happy. And we stock Styles Ice cream in tubs, for cones and at the table.
We also have a range of other services: we prepare fresh picnics in disposable chill boxes, we provide catering for small and large functions, and we have ready meals that can be ordered fresh, but are also stocked frozen for those short of time moments.
But most of all we are a friendly family owned business with a passion for eating simply but well. Come and see us and have a taste of some of the West Country’s finest.

Directions

Additional Information
This is a gem because it is valued by local people for being a traditional deli, with personal service and knowledgeable staff, serving great local produce (especially a wide selection of local cheeses) as well as the best from around the world. This is part of the fightback against fast food and the supermarket giants.
