This is a remarkably large church which may stand on the site of the Saxon minster. The five bay chancel dates from the 14th century, the rest is 1838-39 except for the west tower and the south chapel and vestries, the former by C.E. Ponting, 1908-1909, the latter by W D Caroe of 1921.
The 1921 work with it's ornate facade inside towards he south aisle is superb. Ponting's tower with it's pretty doorway and Somerset tracery in the bell openings is also worthy of note.
There are some interesting early bench ends with some poppy head types and monuments from the 18th century.
