St Michaels Church, Over Compton
Two mighty yew trees in the churchyard and a Perpendicular style church typical of the 15th century, especially the west tower with its Somerset tracery.
There is a nave, chancel and the Perpendicular style is noticeable in the nave and porch wagon roofs. However the north chapel was built in 1776 and made Perpendicular in 1821/22 by Robert Gooden who was patron and his own architect.
The chancel was rebuilt yet later in 1877. The font is of Perpendicular style but is dated 1620 on the rim.
Also contained within the church is a splendid three decker Jacobean pulpit and a spectacular statue of Robert Gooden dates 1825 (died in 1828) which is an outstanding piece of portrait sculpture.
